Elementary School (K-5)
Building Confidence
Holy Spirit provides a calm, supportive, and secure environment. Our values-based education ensures that your child will be known, honored, cared for, and prepared well for lifelong learning.
Starting in preschool and continuing throughout the primary years (K–grade 2), discovery is a key element of learning at Holy Spirit Catholic School. Guided by passionate teachers who utilize hands-on activities and whole-child learning, students develop a firm foundation and grow in literacy, reading fluency, math, science, social studies, faith, and creative expression. Additionally, they reap the benefits of speciality classes such as library, music, and physical education.
During the intermediate years (grades 3–5), the world begins to open up in the hearts and minds of our children. Students at this age use foundational reading and math skills, acquired during their primary education, to expand their horizons. Whether it’s meeting a visiting author, joining Robotics, taking on the role of historical figures in a living “wax museum,” or keeping peers safe by being crossing guards, these are exciting years filled with new possibilities.
At Holy Spirit Catholic School, learning to collaborate, ask questions, and solve problems to become independent and confident learners is a key goal for this age group. Our goal is to deepen skills in core curriculum areas as well as help students develop the essential skills of organization, responsibility, and time management. Holy Spirit provides a safe learning environment that supports social and emotional development. Using morning meetings, group projects, and classroom jobs, students learn personal responsibility and gain a sense of community. It is in practicing these skills that we prepare them to be thinkers, doers, decision-makers, and lifelong learners who do good in the world around them.
Curriculum
Curriculum centers around religion, literacy, language arts, and mathematics. In addition, students take science, social studies, music, physical education, and library classes.
In 4th and 5th grade, teachers are specialists in a particular area of curriculum. Students have the opportunity to learn from 3-4 teachers each day, each an expert in their area. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in band*.
Holy Spirit strives to create a sense of community by forming partnerships and friendships in the classroom, across grade levels, and in the community.
*Band is an additional expense offered during normal school day hours. We partner with Encore Ensembles. The cost is $68 per month plus a one-time registration fee of $25. You can learn more by visiting Encore Ensembles website.
We are a proud Believe and Read school! Generously funded by the Catholic Schools Center of Excellence and presented in partnership with Groves Learning Organization, Believe and Read is a best-in-class literacy program that transforms reading instruction. Believe and Read helps launch ALL students to the next level, supporting struggling readers and high fliers.
“Your child is not just a student at Holy Spirit. They are a member of a community that will do whatever is necessary to help them grow and develop into amazing members of society.”
